Overview
BrieflyCA is a Canada-only mobile news application designed to help users stay informed without spending excessive time reading long articles. The app summarizes current Canadian news into short, readable formats optimized for quick consumption.
How It Started
BrieflyCA started from the observation that most news applications overwhelm users with long articles, notifications, and irrelevant content. The goal was to build a focused news experience that delivers only what matters, in a format that fits modern attention spans.
The Problem
Traditional news platforms are noisy and time-consuming, making it difficult for users to stay informed without feeling overwhelmed or distracted.
The Solution
BrieflyCA automatically fetches Canadian news at fixed intervals and uses AI to rewrite articles into concise summaries that can be read in under a minute. A swipe-based interface allows users to quickly move through content without friction.
Market Impact
BrieflyCA targets busy professionals, students, and casual readers who want to stay updated on Canadian news without investing significant time. The app provides a lightweight alternative to traditional news platforms.
My Role
I independently designed and developed the application, including mobile UI, backend logic, automation workflows, AI integration, and deployment. I also handled performance optimization and ongoing feature updates.
Challenges & Decisions
Key challenges included maintaining summary accuracy, handling frequent news updates efficiently, and ensuring fast content delivery on mobile devices. These were addressed through batch processing, caching strategies, and careful API rate management.
